Australian secondary school students' surveys Cancer Council Victoria These surveys are the main source of data about young people. They include data on alcohol, over-the-counter and illicit drugs.
The costs of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drug abuse to Australian society in 2004/05 National Drug Strategy Published in 2008, this report estimates the costs of alcohol and other drug use in Australia in 2004/05 including public health costs and crime.
The Drug statistics series by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's (AIHW) is a valuable source of statistics and related information on alcohol and other drug use and treatment services. These include:
Drug trends National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) These include the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS), Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) and the National Illicit Drug Indicators Project (NIDIP). This series of reports monitors drug use trends. It also covers drug markets with data on price, availability and purity. The reports include national, and state and territory information.
Drug use monitoring in Australia (DUMA) The DUMA program is a partnership between the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC), state police services and local researchers. It examines the relationship between drugs and crime, and monitors local drug markets and drug use patterns by detainees across time.
Illicit Drug Data Report (IDDR) Produced by the Australian Crime Commission (ACC), these reports look at illicit drug arrests and seizures, as well as the current situation, national impact and emerging trends and threats of illicit drugs in Australia.
National alcohol indicators survey National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) This series reports on alcohol consumption levels and related harms, including mortality rates and alcohol-related hospital admissions, at national state and local levels.
National health survey 2007–2008 Australian Bureau of Statistics This survey provides general population health data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It includes risky drinking levels.
