Local government

Local governments play a key role in reducing and preventing drug-related harm in the community. Since 1999, local governments have developed a number of mechanisms to respond to local drug issues, including the development of local drug strategies and action plans; prevention and early intervention programs; provision of information; public space management; and establishing a number of networks to share information about effective programs and strategies.

This toolkit supports workers by providing access, particularly online access, to relevant, useful and current information and services. The specific aims of this ‘toolkit’ are to:

  • provide a central deposit of relevant, useful drug resources for local government and other professionals working in the area of drug prevention
  • provide access to Web-based Victorian resources in particular, complemented by other state, national and international resources
  • provide an environment for local government workers to share information and promote strategies to prevent and reduce drug-related harm

Please note that this list is not exhaustive. We will continue to add key resources to the toolkit. We also encourage local government workers to submit suggestions of topics and resources we can add to make this service more useful.
