Staying safe on the roads: tips for young people

Number 8.12 March 2010
for young people

As a young Australian driver you need to be particularly careful on the roads. Research shows that, compared with older drivers, you are more likely to be involved in a crash or even killed on the roads. This could be due to factors like inexperience, over-confidence, passenger behaviour, or the use of alcohol or other drugs.

It’s not just alcohol and illegal drugs that can affect driving, either. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect your driving, too.

This fact sheet will give you some tips about staying safe when you drive, particularly if you use alcohol and other drugs.
