Anxiety refers to the normal feelings people experience when they feel stressed or threatened. For example, people may feel anxious in response to exams or changes in circumstances such as the loss of a job or the death of someone close. In these situations, feeling anxious is appropriate and will last for only short periods of time.

This fact sheet outlines some of the many strategies and techniques that can be used to help people cope with anxiety disorders without medication. These strategies range from simple techniques such as physical exercise through to more complex psychological therapy with a health professional.
