Number 5.15 November 2007
For workers

Rural and remote communities can differ considerably in demographics, socioeconomic issues and aspirations. Rural and remote communities also face a diverse range of problems, such as social isolation, infrastructure limitations and stressors such as fire, drought, flood, the closure of a major employer, or even the death of a community member. Many regional and rural communities have shown flexibility, resourcefulness and innovation in dealing with the unique problems that they face. This fact sheet explores the ways in which communities can improve their ability to deal with adversity, conflict or change.
